Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are heart abnormalities present at birth and can affect the structure of a baby’s heart and the way it works.

CHDs are the MOST common birth defect, affecting about 1 in 100 births. 40,000 babies a year are born with CHD, meaning that 1 baby is diagnosed with CHD every 15 minutes!

About 1 in 4 babies born with a heart defect has a critical congenital heart defect, and these babies need surgery or other interventions in the first year of life.
